Frage ohne direkte Antwort
Es handelt sich um eine Frage, auf die keine Antwort gegeben wird. Die Antwort (normalerweise nur ‚Ja‘ oder ‚Nein‘) wird als selbstverständlich vorausgesetzt.
Das Stilmittel wird verwendet, um zu provozieren, Aufmerksamkeit zu erzeugen oder Schlussfolgerungen zu ziehen.
Beispiele:
- When public money brings windfalls to a few, why should the state not take a share? (6)
- But was the best way to win them over to threaten to ignore them altogether? Like so many things this week, the adminitstration's diplomacy needs a smoother touch. (6) (Beachte, dass der folgende Satz keine Antwort auf die Frage gibt.)
