Aber: -ee bleibt
Beispiel: agree – agreeing
Der Endkonsonant nach einem kurzen, betonten Vokal wird verdoppelt.
Beispiel: sit – sitting
I am sitting on the sofa. You are sitting on the sofa. He is sitting on the sofa.
Hinweis: Endkonsonant = Mitlaut am Wortende, Vokal = Selbstlaut
Ein l als Endkonsonant nach einem Vokal wird immer verdoppelt.
Beispiel: travel – travelling
I am travelling around. You are travelling around. He is travelling around.
Hinweis: Dies gilt nur im britischen Englisch, im amerikanischen Englisch wird meist nur ein l geschrieben.
Ein ie am Wortende wird zu y.
Beispiel: lie – lying
I am lying in bed. You are lying in bed. He is lying in bed.
